At the beginning of my previous blog article I mentioned, that I want to see and experience on my trips as much as I can handle. Because you never know whether you will have a chance to come back. Therefore, I am so grateful I could visit KL twice already. I managed to see the most important places, meet local people and their culture and taste Malaysian cuisine. That is the reason why I wish you could visit this city too. Consider my recommendations for what to see in Kuala Lumpur in 3 days as a beginning of your amazing trip to Asia!

Petronas Towers

Petronas Towers are the number one must-see attraction in Kuala Lumpur. It would be a shame not to visit the Observation Deck and Skybridge. Mostly when the weather is nice, so you can enjoy the views of the city. Make sure you check the opening hours and admission fee at the Petronas Twin Towers official website. Plan your visit in advance, so you have plenty time to explore the Towers’ neighbourhood. There is a lot to see and do. You can lose yourself inside the Suria KLCC shopping centre situated right beneath the towers. Or, you can wander around the KLCC park and watch the Symphony Lake Water Show. It is beautiful later in the evening, when it’s dark outside and the water is lit with many colours.

Menara Kuala Lumpur / KL Tower

In case you are a fan of views and Petronas Towers were not enough, I have picked for you another awesome place! It’ Menara, or the KL Tower. It is located relatively close to Petronas Towers, approx. 30 minutes walking. Just make sure you check where the entrance to the tower is. It lies inside a park and there is only one entrance. If you miss it, you will need to circle it around and that takes a lot of additional time. You can buy a ticket and go to the top of the tower. You will have wonderful view of the whole city lying beneath you. Once I was there, there was storm in the city, so the view wasn’t the best. However, it was kind of cool. 🙂

National Mosque of Malaysia

For little bit more authentic experience, I recommend visiting the National Mosque of Malaysia, or Masjid Negara. It is situated next to the Lake Gardens Kuala Lumpur, and less than an hour of walking from Menara. It is close to Central Market, you just need to cross the river. Masjid Negara is not only majestic from the outside. It’s interior is simple yet magnificent. All women are requested to wear a gown and a scarf over their heads to enter it’s premises.

If you decide to visit the Lake Gardens that are made up of five different gardens and parks, make sure you have enough water and snack with you. It will be a long and tiring day. 🙂

Thean Hou Temple

To escape the rush of the city, visit the Thean Hou Temple. It is a Buddhist temple situated on top of Robson Heights. Thean Hou Temple, also known as the Temple of the Goddess of Heaven, belongs among the oldest and largest temples in Southeast Asia. Its uniqueness lies in the combination of modern architecture and traditional elements and six tier design.

It is popular tourist attraction as it offers variety of activities. Wandering around its premises, you can enjoy majestic views of the Kuala Lumpur.  Once you finish your excursion around all the levels of the temple, you can refresh yourself at the canteen on the first floor, or buy some souvenirs for your family  and friends.

Batu caves

Once in KL, allocate at least half a day for a trip to Batu caves which are one of the most favourite attractions in Malaysia. You can take public transport to get to Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It takes approximately one hour. Batu caves are a limestone hill consisting of three main caves and a number of smaller ones. In the largest – Cathedral cave, you can find a couple of Hindu shrines. However, it is not that easy to get there. You need to conquer many stairs and many monkeys begging for food.

Central Market

Pasar Seni (Central market) is well-known tourist attraction. Originally, you could buy there only fruit, vegetables and meat. However, now you can find there various Malaysian, Indian and Chinese local products, such as arts, crafts, clothes and souvenirs. There are also restaurants where you can taste some of the local delicacies.

Trips to neighbourhood destinations

Kuala Lumpur is situated in the middle of West Malaysia, giving you many opportunities to travel into neighbourhood countries. You can either go north and enjoy the Thai food and beaches or continue your trip in Singapore.

Flights from KL to Singapore are quite frequent and you can manage even one day trip.  However, I would recommend more than just one day in Singapore. For tips what to see and do in Singapore, you can read my full article about 6 places to visit in Singapore.

Love & happy travels,
